I have been a hugh Lyle Mays fan all of my adult life. This composition is not meant to sound like him, but to honor him.
September 15th was always a fav of mine from Metheny / Mays. Loved how their tribute to Bill Evans, was nothing that really sounded like Bill Evans. It was a tribute from them in their own style. So, one day it clicked, I should try and do the same for Lyle. I am that big a fan.
Anyway, like it or not, here it is. Was enjoyable to play and record.
Gear: Yamaha KX88, Roland JV1080 Synth Module, M Track, edited in Adobe Audition and Premier Pro.

That's a tour de force of playing Jim. Excellent technique, lots of mood shifts, great mix of melody and rhythm, and very dynamic while remaining so precise!
If you have a YouTube version I'd like to nominate you for our @SharedSecrets playlists.

You are a hell of a player Jim, wow!. That’s was quite a treat. Thankyou!
Andy Dolphin * UK
Fabulous. Great technique and dynamic range. What piano voice is it? Master keyboard running through a PC? Sounds metallic as opposed to woody. Sounds nice
Rami Laine * Helsinki
Amazing skills, loved the lower velocity notes and the ending, not necessarily that much the louder parts. But I could really just look at that playing. Very nice!
Celcbrating 14th anniversary. "HOOKED" one raucous romp of a ride. Also available in audio book. All 5 star reviews. A mighty fun summer ready. If you are at a pool or a beach, a must read in your beach bag. Cheers.

GEAR: Cannon SL2. Tokina 11/16mm. heat packs, Ioptron Sky Tracker Pro, Intrevalometer, Head lamps, Mavic Mini 3 shot at 46megapixel. Shot at 400ft agl. Exposure for the Milky Way was 2 shots totaling 20minutes.
I had been wanting to film the Milky Way over Cedar Island in July for quite some time. Well, with the folks at the Wachapreague Inn agreeing to host JBOTV for a shoot, and excellent clear sky forecast, and all gear ready and willing, plue a new drone that could get out to Cedar Island easily, this shoot was a go!! A perfect night. All gear worked flawless, light wind, and the sky was endless.
The exposure here was two images totalling 20 minutes of exposure. The Milky Way came out so clean, there was very little to do in post proccessing. The foreground is Cedar Island filmed at 400ft agl from a 48megapixel drone camera.
She takes GREAT images!
If you have not yet experianced the night sky in Wachapreague, I suddest you do so ASAP. Contact the Wachapreague Inn, it is the perfect location and wonderful accommodations!

"Jim Baugh's music is a treasure trove of soothing piano compositions. His style is reminiscent of the Windham Hill era, with relaxing and inspirational pieces that blend jazz and classical influences.
Some of his notable works include "Good Morning in Dmaj" and "ViBe," a piano composition inspired by the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and the creative arts district Baugh's music often features beautiful, intricate playing, as seen in his piece "Eventide," which takes listeners on a musical journey through stormy weather and resolving emotions.
You can explore more of Jim Baugh's music on his Piano channel, which features a playlist with over three hours of continuous piano music"
Realy enjoyed working on this one. Fun tune to play for sure!

Nice and that gal at the end has a beautiful scene to look out on with her coffee. Cheers Jim. Good to hear music from you again.

Lots of play and invention in this. I love the shift to a lighter section, then the dramatic and dynamic return. Fine work well played Jim. Good music for the first cup of coffee!

Pretty amazing piece of music ... at first I feared it was but another coffee commercial but then the fingers went flying unexpectedly resolving into a view of the beach. Pretty amazing!!
"Jim Baugh's music is a treasure trove of piano compositions that evoke emotions and paint vivid pictures. His latest release, "Eventide" for piano, is a beautiful piece that takes listeners on a musical journey. The composition is dedicated to two special people who have passed away from cancer, and it's a testament to the power of music to evoke feelings and memories. Jim Baugh's music style is a blend of jazz and classical, with intricate piano playing that showcases his skill and craftsmanship. His piano compositions are often described as "stormy" and "relentless," yet beautiful and uplifting."
Many thanks to Jordan Kitts Piano Studio for letting me come in, set up and record in their studio. Usually I record most of my piano at Mermaid Bay Media Studio on a KX88 piano controller and JV1080 ROland Synth Rack Module. However for this composition I really wanted a live "Room" sound on an acoustic, and Jordan Kitts was happy to ablidge. Much appreciated. Now yall go buy a piano from them!
This new track will be used in some upcoming projects as well as Jim Baugh Outdoors TV and some film and music festivals worldwide.
This music was written with two very special people in mind who have passed from Cancer and have remaind dear to me for over 40 years. Both truly loved music as much or more as I do. Time is short folks.
~ Make the most of your Eventide.

Wowsa! Thats some fancy playing there my man! The composition took me to stormy weather at first, but then after a few minutes, around 3:40 I think, the storm subsided a bit and the mood lifted.
What a great expression of anger or anxiety finally resolved. Good stuff my man, I'm humbled!

I commend your ability. Outstanding!
This is a real musical journey, it's a very stormy piece and I would also say relentless. Loved it . Great stuff!

Nice Jim. Tom has it with the tidal stuff there and time passing and piano creates a perfect mood here. You are a hugely accomplished player and some lovely bright changes as we go later into the music too. Sometimes it's tough to sit through a 6 to 7 minute piece but for a piano instrumental it seems almost right that we need an initial 2 minutes to immerse ourselves fully into the journey. Cheers Jim. Thanks for the passing of time. It passed quickly here.
I understand when it's time to move on too. It says what it needs to say and says it well.

Atmospheric piece of music jim, great playing and control.

Great piano playing plus you published it in the group the
day when I turned 60. Thank You for the present. I suggest you like Chick Corea.

I enjoyed the mix of different parts or moods. Never
predictable with lots of twists. The front reminded me a bit of Keith Jarrett,
then you went through those inventive change ups! Was this structured, sort of
structured or improvised? Well done! If you have a YouTube version, I'll
nominate it for Shared Secrets - Facebook page for YouTube Playlists if you
like.

That’s terrific. Really picks up the vibe of the video
shown. Didn’t escape me that it slowed down to the pretty woman in the bikini.
But that was the music reacting to the visual. All good.
Neil Fromm
Very polished keyboard play with that always varied and
dynamic jazz feel. Love the sound of the piano in this piece Jim.
Jim Barrett
Ah this was a treat for the ears and I especially loved the
later stages from just before when them gals were walking around in a circle
there to the end. It was all brilliant but there especially had me transfixed.
It could have been an instrumental Joe Jackson piece.
Wonderful playing and composing. Thank you Jim. A delight to
listen.

“Atlantic Avenue” was inspired from the countless trips down
Atlantic Avenue usually on the way to a shoot. This road travels along the
Virginia Beach Oceanfront and whether it’s in season or off, this is a very cool
stretch of road. At the bottom end just a block or two west lies the Creative
Arts District.
The left hand work is based on a Jazz improv that I worked
on years ago. This is another one of those, “Composing over my pay grade again”.
But, it not only keeps you sharp, but expands ones ability, no complaints here.
This track has been featured in some of my video projects
and will also be used during the 2025 /26 Astrophotography Short Film Projects.
Will be updating our web sites with further info, for now here are the dates. All relatively based around the new moons of prime Milky Way Season 2025.
