Jim Baugh Kicks off the 2016 Author\Lecture Series Cape Charles Virginia

Thanks to the Friends of Cape Charles Memorial Library for having me out to kick of their 2016 Author\Lecture Series at the Cape Charles Civic Center. We had a packed house with an enthusiastic crowd! General discussion included the history of the now 28 year old Jim Baugh Outdoors TV Series, my books Hooked and Aftermath, and we also had some funny discussion about my recent completion of the Hooked screenplay. It was nice to know that paperbacks are still in fashion because we sold out! I had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone. The only ones missing were the six people who were supposed to sit behind me. Thanks again. Tight lines and good reads! JB

Jim Baugh's "Hooked & Aftermath" novels receive more five star reviews

Many thanks to everyone who have reviewed and enjoyed both Hooked and Aftermath. The kind reviews have been overwhelming and yes, the screenplay is in development now. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, hopefully by late fall or after the new year the project will be completed. The screenplay is based on both books and is busting with humor, and all the blessings that come from the Magnolia Tree.

Thanks again everyone. Tight Lines, Good reads and good eats!
Godspeed,
Jim Baugh

Format:Paperback
I just finished this book and it is fantastic. It's written the best way a story can be told, so that it captures the reader and won't let them put it down. Jim's life and adventures are compelling and uplifting; as the stories are told in these pages, the reader is drawn in and can easily visualize what's happening and even picture themselves in similar situations. Totally believable, funny (at times hilarious and borderline nuts!), Jim's adventures in his everyday life make us want to know him personally and hang with him. For sure, there would never be boredom! It's funny, while one of the take-aways is that while Jim Baugh has had a great time in his life, the other is that he has worked hard for his fun. As a long-time boating magazine writer and publisher, I only wish I could write this way. Loved it and will definitely look forward to reading more from Mr. Baugh!

JBO TV returns to film one of the Chesapeake Bay's premier destinations St. Mary's County Maryland

This week we are packing our gear and headed on a return trip to one of our favorite destinations, St. Mary’s County Maryland. This historic area has over 500 miles of shoreline and is cradled between the Potomac, & Patuxent Rivers as well as the Chesapeake Bay.  With five water based state parks and St. Mary’s rich history there is simply a ton of things to see and do. This center point on the Bay offers everything a boater and fishing enthusiast could ask for.
This will be our third filming out of St Mary’s however our first in over 20 years. There has been a lot going on at St. Mary’s since our last visit and we are looking forward to filming lots of new attractions and see what’s “Cookin” as well.
We will have JBOTV on location reports next week here on the JBOTV Blog site and post on social media as well. Our fishing and boating segment will be on Sunday and will have all the info posted by Monday morning, so stay tuned.

Tight Lines! Jim Baugh

For more info on St. Mary’s county visit their web site here. Also look for the May issue of Coastal Angler Magazine where we unfold a hilarious story about one of our first trips to the area. One fun read that also has some pretty good fishing tips!

RIP Captain Buddy Harrison

Last time on board with Captain Buddy
this past spring 2014
We sadly say good-bye to a true Chesapeake Bay legend. A very successful charter captain, fisherman, hotelier, and restaurateur; Captain Buddy Harrison above all was an original the likes of which we are not apt to see again.
All who met Captain Buddy never forgot this old salt. For me it was twenty years ago when we had a super time featuring him on Jim Baugh Outdoors TV while filming out of Baltimore on the Chesapeake Bay. We caught a boatload of fish that day and Captain Buddy was very accommodating. He was a natural on camera especially with that old, Tilghman Island accent. That show was the very first travel feature we ever produced –what a godsend to feature a charter with Captain Buddy at the helm!

Just this past spring, it was amazing to meet up with Captain Buddy again on our 25th Anniversary Show featuring Talbot County, Maryland. Donna and I enjoyed our stay at his family’s Harrisons Chesapeake House on Tilghman Island. We also fished with him all day joined by his son and grandson. We limited out pretty quick, and were back at the docks ready to filet Rockfish for the evening’s supper. and fished with the Harrisons all day.

I spent a lot of time swapping tales with Captain Buddy and his son that day, mostly about fishing and the many uproarious stories that went along with years of running a fishing charter business. We laughed and laughed –time spent with the Captain always included plenty of those. I gained a lot of respect for Captain Buddy, his family, and the legacy they’ve built in the charter business. They run a first class fishing operation from check in to check out, where keeping customers happy is the family motto.

Rockfishing is here again, and if your looking for a great charter, come on out and enjoy what Captain Buddy built on his beloved Tilghman Island. The Harrisons will set you up right.

The show we produced on Talbot County featuring Buddy is broadcasting now on NBC Universal. View it online at anytime. Link is below.

Captain Buddy is one of those larger than life characters, or as his fan club use to sing, “If he can’t do it, nobody can.” Meeting and working with someone like him makes being in this business truly worth it.

It’s the end of an era, and that can be sad. Yet Captain Buddy’s legacy lives on in the businesses he built, certainly with his family that carries on, and most of all the laughter he shared with all on deck and on land.

I do believe there is a Rolex Presidential waiting for him at the pearly gates.

JBO sends our prayers and condolences to Captain Buddy’s family and his many friends.

Until we cast a line with you again, Captain Buddy!

FIRST LOOK! New Jim Baugh Outdoors TV Anniversary Special featuring Smith Mountain Lake and Franklin County Virginia. See what’s new and enjoy the 20 year flashback of great Crappie and Striper fishing. One of my favorite places to go and one very enjoyable and memorable program to produce and edit. Smith Mountain has always been very special to me and our family, Lots of family and friends there, my kids spent a lot of their youth on that lake thanks to Grandma and Grandpa. Many thanks to the MANY guides over the years who have become good friends and were featured on our show regularly. Captain Earl, Captain Bob, Spike and Cathy, Captain Potter (made it in HOOKED) and lots of others. They are all great people and excellent anglers. Thanks also to the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber and to Franklin County for hosting us on this anniversary trip. Also big thanks to Bruno, fantastic chef and everyone must try his excellent restaurant at Bernards Landing. We love that place. Enjoy this feature; it has been one heck of a trip down memory lane. BOY DO I MISS CRAPPIE FISHING!! I will cherish this show for ever.

On Location Update: Smith Mountain Lake and Franklin County

Smith Mountain Lake

WOW!!! There are so many new things to see and do in the greater Smith Mountain Lake area. Most of my time at Smith Mountain was about 15 to 20 years ago when Jim Baugh Outdoors was producing a fair amount of inland striped bass features. My kids spent a lot of time at the lake and we found it was also one of the best lakes for crappie fishing anywhere.

JBO TV was filming in the area as a part of our 25th anniversary series to air later this spring. First up there was a big Oakley Bass tourney being held out of Bridgewater and boy did these anglers catch some Bass! Great event and turn out. There was also a festival being held at the New Moneta that had some darn good BBQ, some of the best!

Things have certainly changed over the years. The old campers paradise which was sort of an old fisherman’s hangout where you could go for a breakfast platter, buy oil for your boat, and also get a bucket of minnows to your liking. Now the place has been totally overhauled, or almost rebuilt as the new “Jakes”. One fantastic restaurant and bar complete with scenic outside Caribbean patio dining. The place is truly gorgeous, very well done and we can't wait for a return visit.

On the cooking front we had the pleasure of working with the Landing Restaurant and interviewed owner chef “Bruno”. This chef is both artist and craftsman when it comes to cuisine. All homemade recipes with a strong flair for the original and delightful. This has become a very popular restaurant and has a beautiful view of the lake.
The Landing Restaurant, Bernards Landing.
Other stops during our filming included the home of Booker T Washington which will be featured in Jim Baugh Outdoors “Lure of the Shore” with Donna Bozza. Moving southward we filmed some art stores in Rocky Mount as well as Ferrum College.

The Grainery in Rocky Mount

We based our trip out of Bernards Landing where we enjoyed bucolic views of the Lake. This is also an amenity rich place complete with workout room, sauna, steam, indoor and outdoor swimming pool and hot tubs. The Landing Restaurant is also on the premises. Now is a good time to book your summer vacation at Bernards Landing, the place is awesome. We will be back!

Bernards Landing
Once the show is finished post production, we will broadcast the show and also stream it online 24/7. This feature will be broadcast along with our feature on Talbot County Maryland. We are filming there later this month.

Stay tuned!!!
